THE 2002 DOWNHILL COMPETITION
This year's Downhill Competition
was held as usual on Bridestones Hill, at the Rushton Spencer
end of Bosley Cloud.
On a bright but cool morning Rob Bailey, Mike Workman, Bob Grainger,
Pam and Phil Fern, Roy Aitken and myself assembled at the Unicorn
for a pleasant potter out to the venue. We ambled through Mottram
St Andrew to Gawsworth, where we met the girls - Joan and Ann
who had driven out and then proceeded to the café at the
Garden Centre where we partook of coffee and toasted teacakes
before commencing the tough climb to the top of Bridestones.
Rob - being on fixed-wheel - elected to be the measurer and then
the contest was on in earnest.
Bob Grainger set first mark but was passed by Pam. Roy improved
the mark but was passed by Phil who in turn succumbed to Mike.
This just left defending champion Pete to come down, but having
lost half a stone over the summer proved to be his undoing as
he could manage no better than fourth place - pretty pathetic
for a defending champion, But congratulations to Mike on an excellent
victory.
After the event we called in at the Knot Inn at Rushton for a
good lunch, then went our separate ways home. Another good day
awheel.
